Sample work English K–10 Stage 3: Activity 4 – Imaginative Text Narrative

Description of activity

Students plan, draft and write a narrative using visual stimulus as a starting point.  They use one or more images from the visual stimulus sheet.

Context

Students have explored the literary techniques used by a number of authors and analysed the ways they use the elements of narrative to engage the reader. Students have read a variety of narratives, predicting how resolutions will be achieved and how readers are positioned in relation to characters and events. They were asked to demonstrate their understanding of text structure when composing their own narrative.

Outcomes

EN3-6B uses knowledge of sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary to respond to and compose clear and cohesive texts in different media and technologies

EN3-7C thinks imaginatively, creatively, interpretively and critically about information and ideas and identifies connections between texts when responding to and composing texts

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

• Plan, draft and edit their own writing
• Use written language features and conventions appropriate to a narrative text
• Use a variety of verbs, adjectives and conjunctions
• Use a multi-strategy approach to spelling.
