Here’s what you need to know about applying for HALT accreditation in NSW, including step guides, developing your modules and submitting your application.

Overview of applying for HALT Accreditation

  1. Assess your readiness

    • Check your eligibility
    • Choose your level of accreditation
    • Discuss your readiness with your principal or service director
    • Complete the HALT Orientation Course
    • Pay your application fee
    • Attend a NESA workshop
  2. Develop and submit your first 2 modules

    • Develop your first module
    • Collect and annotate evidence of your practice
    • Attend a NESA workshop
    • Write a module overview statement
    • Nominate your referees
    • Internal observations of practice
    • Submit your first module
    • Review module assessment
    • Develop your second module and submit
  3. Complete a site visit

HALT accreditation information for teachers

HALT accreditation is a voluntary national certification. It recognises your teaching practice meets the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (the Standards) at the relevant HALT career stage.

HALT accreditation recognises and promotes the development of collaborative practice. It supports teachers to continually reflect upon and improve their practice and the practice of colleagues.

All teachers need to meet the conditions of accreditation set out in Section 1 of the NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual  (TA Manual) to become and remain accredited in NSW.
