The
English K–6 Syllabus
provides information on principles that underpin effective planning
at whole-school, stage and class level, as well as at an individual level.
Teachers may choose to use a particular method of planning and programming, such as that
illustrated in Figure 1.

Collaborative curriculum planning
For some students with special education needs the collaborative curriculum planning process
is appropriate.
Collaborative curriculum planning is a process whereby a group of people meet to discuss
and make decisions about curriculum options and adjustments to enable a student with
special education needs to access the curriculum and associated learning experiences and
assessment opportunities. The subsequent development of teaching programs within the
key learning areas (KLAs) is informed by the collaborative curriculum planning process.
The planning meetings will include the student and parents/carers. The meetings should
also include people who have significant knowledge of the student, such as the classroom
teacher, school principal (or representative), learning support personnel, stage supervisor and
