Figure 2: Selecting outcomes
For some students, teachers will need to plan a sequence of small steps towards the
achievement of outcomes through which they will be able to monitor student progress.
Note that the selection of outcomes for students with special education needs and the
determination of adjustments required for specific units of work may be informed by the
collaborative curriculum planning process.
What content, learning experiences and instruction will allow
students to demonstrate these outcomes?
It is important that teachers develop whole-class programs that meet the learning needs of
all students.
Content
In planning a unit of work, teachers may choose to integrate content from the talking and
listening, reading, and writing strands to facilitate students’ learning. The ‘Overview of
Language and Language Learning’ illustrates the relationship between the strands of the syllabus.
Content should be selected from the
English K–6 Syllabus
according to an individual
student’s learning needs. Teachers should identify the knowledge, skills and strategies
