The Accreditation of Professional Development Courses Policy came into effect in July 2021. Not all previously NESA Registered courses align to a priority area and therefore meet the requirements to be NESA Accredited courses. Courses which are not accredited may be able to be logged as Elective PD if they meet the Elective PD guidelines.

NESA presents a range of PD through hands-on workshops and online courses.

NSW Curriculum

NSW Primary Curriculum Professional Learning

The professional learning gives information about the NSW Curriculum Reform, syllabus development, new syllabuses and how to cater for the diversity of learners. The modules can be worked through individually, or you may choose to work through the module with a colleague.

NSW Primary Curriculum Professional Learning is made of up 3 modules:

Introducing the new NSW Curriculum

Duration: 2 hours
Cost: Free

Introduction English K–2 Syllabus

Duration: 2.5 hours
Cost: Free

Introduction Mathematics K–2 Syllabus

Duration: 2.5 hours
Cost: Free

All NSW teachers have access to the course by logging in to NESA Online Learning.

Numeracy Stage 6 CEC Professional Learning

The professional learning course supports the implementation of the new Numeracy Stage 6 CEC syllabus.

The course focuses on:

supporting students to develop the functional numeracy skills required to become active and successful participants in society
identifying and overcoming common misconceptions in numeracy
developing numerical reasoning and mathematical thinking
assessment
effective strategies to cater for diversity of learners.

Duration: 3.5 hours

Cost: Free

A session designed to engage and support provisional and conditional teachers who are employed on a casual or short-term basis and are working towards Proficient Teacher accreditation. This session is suitable for teachers employed in schools or early childhood services.

A session designed to engage and support all teachers who are working towards accreditation at Proficient Teacher, their supervisors and anyone managing teacher accreditation.

Maintaining Proficient Teacher accreditation

This PD session is a general overview for teachers who are maintaining accreditation at Proficient Teacher, as well as principals and anybody overseeing teacher accreditation.

Maintaining Proficient Teacher accreditation – early childhood teachers

This PD session is specifically designed to engage and support early childhood teachers who are due to submit their first maintenance of accreditation period at Proficient Teacher. The session will provide information about the requirements for maintaining accreditation, including professional development requirements and guidance on finalising maintenance of accreditation.

Accreditation Supervisor workshop

Working towards Proficient Teacher accreditation

This session will help you understand your role as an Accreditation Supervisor and working with Provisionally and Conditionally accredited teachers. The session covers topics such as the characteristics of effective documentary evidence, reviewing annotated documentary evidence and supporting teachers through their observation of practice.

Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Policy (2022) update – principals and service directors

This PD session is designed for principals and service directors supporting teachers applying for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher accreditation under the revised HALT policy (2022).

Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Policy (2022) update – prospective applicants

This PD session is designed for teachers to develop an understanding of Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher accreditation. This session is suitable for teachers employed in schools or early childhood services interested in applying under the revised HALT policy (2022).

Proficient Teacher Orientation Course

This mandatory course will help you understand the Proficient Teacher application process, key requirements and available support.

The course will help you:

begin your Proficient Teacher application
develop your teaching practice in line with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
finalise your Proficient Teacher application
locate further information and supporting resources.

Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) Orientation Course

This course will help you understand how to apply for and the requirements of Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher accreditation.

Completing the course will allow you to log one hour of NESA Elective PD. addressing Standard Descriptor 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation.

All NSW teachers have access to the course by logging in to NESA Online Learning.

Accreditation Supervisor Orientation Course

This course will help you learn more about the role and responsibilities of an Accreditation Supervisor.

The course takes you through supporting teachers to begin their Proficient Teacher accreditation application, develop their practice and finalise their application.

Making Consistent Proficient Teacher Accreditation Decisions

This course supports Accreditation supervisors and principals to make consistent accreditation judgements for teachers working towards Proficient Teacher accreditation.

Insight into HALT Assessor Training for teachers

This course provides insight into the mandatory training provided to HALT Assessors, explores the HALT program and the support that teachers receive throughout it, ensuring consistent information, strategies and tools are used when assessing HALT applications.

Understanding and applying the HSC Standards for teachers

Teachers can enrol in professional learning that aims to provide a deeper understanding of the HSC Standards and how HSC results are reported.

This course covers the following key areas:

Standards-referenced assessment
the Standards-setting process
using the English standards materials together with the English performance band descriptions.

HSC

HSC Minimum Standard

Implementing the HSC Minimum Standard - PD Modules

The purpose of this PD is to assist teachers and school executive to understand and plan for the HSC minimum standard of literacy and numeracy. There are 3 self-paced learning modules for secondary teachers and an additional 5 modules for school executives. The modules will help build understanding of the HSC minimum standard requirement and the implications for students and teaching practice.

Duration: 2 hours

NESA has a range of resources to assist schools with the implementation of the HSC Minimum Standard.

Disability provisions (HSC)

HSC disability provisions – the why, how and what happens

This presentation will focus on the rationale and process of applying for disability provisions for the HSC exams. By attending this online workshop teachers, executive and learning support personnel will have a better understanding of the Disability Provisions Program. They will be able to evaluate more clearly the need for submitting an application for individual students and to ensure their applications provide appropriate supporting documentation.

Audience: Teachers, executive and learning support personnel
