On 24 October 2022, NESA published the NSW Teacher Accreditation Manual (TA Manual), which is being implemented in stages. NESA introduced sections 1-3; 10; and 11 with immediate effect on publication of the TA Manual.
From today, 29 November 2022, NESA is responsible for all accreditation decisions for all teachers in NSW and the following sections of the TA Manual take effect with the publication of this Official Notice:
Effective: Immediately
Sections 4-7; 9; 12; and 14, which replace the previous:
- Accreditation of Teachers by NESA Policy
- Leave of Absence from Accreditation Policy
- Maintenance of Teacher Accreditation Policy
- Proficient Teacher Accreditation Policy
- Accreditation at Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Policy (2018)
- Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Accreditation Policy (2022)
- Guidelines for the Regulation of Teacher Accreditation Authorities for Non-Government Schools and Early Childhood Education Centres (TAA Guidelines)
New accreditation procedures replace the previous:
- Early Childhood Teachers: maintaining accreditation at Proficient Teacher
- Early Childhood Teachers: achieving accreditation at Proficient Teacher
- Early Childhood Teachers: Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher
- Non-school/service based teachers: Proficient Teacher
- Non-school/service based teachers: Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher
- Teacher Re-Accreditation Procedures
NESA’s school registration manuals have been amended to reflect the TA Manual.
2023 reforms
NESA will continue to implement teacher accreditation reforms in 2023, including:
- expanded suitability to teach assessments
- a Non-practising teacher accreditation category
- streamlined recording of Elective PD.
