Report

At the end of each cycle of Maintenance of Accreditation at Proficient Teacher, Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher levels, you need to write and submit a Maintenance of Accreditation Report. This report should demonstrate how your teaching practice has continued to reflect the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers over the period of your maintenance cycle.

  • From 4 January 2016, NESA (previously BOSTES) introduced an online process for developing and submitting your Maintenance of Accreditation Report.
  • The report is written by you and should be completed and submitted to your Teacher Accreditation Authority (TAA) or your principal for verification between 3 and 6 months before the end of your maintenance period.
  • Your TAA (or TAA (A/L) for higher level accredited teachers) or principal will make the accreditation decision on the basis of your ongoing demonstration of the Standards and completion of PD requirements, verify the report, and submit it the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
  • If required, your principal or TAA may return the Report for amendment and re-submission.

Tips for writing your report

  • Before writing the report it is useful to discuss maintenance requirements with your supervisor and/or colleagues. They will be able to provide constructive feedback against the Standards which can help you in reflecting on your practice not just in your own classroom, but within the broader context of the school community
  • Focus on what you have done and achieved, rather than contextualising information
  • Make sure your report reads as specific to your practice. It is a personal document and should not be generic or similar to other teachers’ reports. Successful reports give the TAA a feel for the teacher’s own practice and classroom techniques
  • If you worked across a number of subjects or stages throughout the period, the report can reference this. The report is not designed to refer to one particular class or period of learning, but should give a holistic view of your work and professional learning. You can choose specific examples of your demonstration of the Standards from any work you have done during this time.
  • Think about any committees or boards you have served on and how this might demonstrate your commitment to the profession.
  • You can reference both PD recorded with NESA, and any other professional learning you may have undertaken. If you do this, remember to make sure your report focuses on how these examples impacted on student learning and your overall classroom practice.

Submit online

From 4 January 2016,NESA (previously BOSTES) introduced an online process for developing and submitting your Maintenance of Accreditation Report.

To use the online process:

  1. Log into your online account. You will need your username and password
  2. Click on the 'Teacher' tab and then on the ‘Maintenance of Accreditation Report’ button
  3. Write your Maintenance of Accreditation Report demonstrating how your classroom practice has continued to reflect the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers over the period of your maintenance cycle
  4. Click the ‘Save as Draft’ button at the bottom of the page to save and return to the writing the report later
  5. Once complete, click the ‘Save and Submit’ button to send it to your principal and TAA
