Many teachers from overseas come to NSW to work as a school teacher as part of an exchange program. To work as an exchange teacher in NSW, you need to become accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
An exchange program allows teachers from overseas to participate in an exchange program with teachers from NSW. Typically this involves teachers swapping jobs with each other.
Apply for Provisional or Conditional Accreditation
As an exchange teacher you are still required to be accredited by NESA. You must apply for Provisional or Conditional Accreditation online and by posting us your academic qualifications – ideally before you start your exchange position.
What if your academic documents are in another language?
If any of your qualifications are in a language other than English you will need to provide certified copies of both the original documents, as well as certified copies of translations of the documents. The translation must be done by an accredited translator. In Australia, the documents must be translated by a person accredited with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
As an exchange teacher you will not be required to pay the annual accreditation fee. If you receive an accreditation fee invoice, please email or call us on 1300 739 338 (within Australia).
If you have a question please email or call us on 1300 739 338 (within Australia) or +61 2 9268 6300 (from overseas).
