Teacher accreditation information sessions

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) offers the following online and face-to-face information sessions on accreditation for teachers in NSW:

Proficient Teacher Accreditation for Casual and Short-term Teachers

This 1.5 hour session is only for casual and short-term teachers who are working towards accreditation at Proficient Teacher. The session focuses on developing an understanding of the requirements for Proficient Teacher accreditation and provides advice for teachers employed on a casual or short-term basis.

The session is available online or face-to-face. All sessions start promptly at 4:00pm.

The session will cover the following topics:

  • the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and teacher accreditation
  • teaching as a professional continuum
  • understanding Standards-based teaching practice
  • the journey to proficient teacher accreditation
  • visible teaching practice and impact (for casual and part-time teachers)
  • developing authentic evidence with a TAA
  • writing annotations
  • the accreditation decision.

    Maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation for Casual and Short-term Teachers

    This 1.5 hour session is only for casual and short-term teachers who are maintaining accreditation at Proficient Teacher. The session will focus on developing a stronger understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and provides advice on how casual teachers can maintain accreditation.

    The session will cover:
    • engaging with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
    • building on your teaching practice at Proficient Teacher
    • setting professional and personal learning goals
    • monitoring time frames
    • engaging in lifelong learning
    • critically reflecting on your teaching practice.

    Completing this session will contribute 1.5 hours of NESA Registered PD (Standard Descriptors 6.1.2 and 7.4.2) towards maintenance requirements for Proficient Teachers in NSW.

    Information sessions for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher candidates

    NESA are hosting live online information sessions for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher candidates throughout 2017.

    This 1 hour session is for teachers who are interested in accreditation at Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher level. The session provides information on:

    • the requirements for accreditation at the higher levels
    • the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
    • the three sources of evidence 
    • how the accreditation decision is made.

    Sessions start promptly at 4pm.
